Video Poker 247
- Alaskan Video Poker
Alaska’s state legislators are pushing for a state wide vote for video
poker and gambling. They want the addition of a constitutional
amendment making gambling legal to go to the people of the state so
that they can decide for themselves what they want legal and what they
don’t want legal.
If they decide to go this route, there would be a video poker and
gambling initiative on the ballot in November so that residents could
decide one way or another. There is already an initiative on the
ballot for August that would create a commission with the power to
authorize video poker, slot machines, or any kind of gambling on their
own.
Conceivably both could pass, but that is ok. If the first one passes
making the group a reality it will take longer than the two months in
between the two votes to get them up and running. They are not at all
concerned that they wouldn’t be able to vote them down two months
later when the people have spoken.
Right now the legislature makes the decision as to what is allowed and
what is not. They have had many fights over whether or not video poker
should be allowed, or slot machines, etc. However, when it came down
to brass tacks, video poker, slots, et. al. are still illegal and that
is the only thing that matters to most residents.
