Video Poker 247
- Freeze on Addition of New Games
The Louisiana House has voted to limit the number of video bingo games
that can come into the state. On Thursday, they decided to support a
moratorium that was on the floor which would keep certain types of
video machines from being able to be offered in the state.
In what was considered a landslide victory by many, they voted 84-15
for the legislation. They say that they found that the games were much
more like video poker or slot machines than they were like bingo
games. In the future, they say that bingo games are going to have to
look more like bingo games - with the cards, etc.
Any current machine that is already located in the state would be
exempt from the ruling and allowed to stay. However, new machines
would not be permitted to come in. They say that the sheer number of
video bingo machines has grown so immensely, from 277 to 786, over the
course of two years that something had to be done about it.
Most of the machines are appearing in places that have made video
poker illegal. They think that the machines are in response to that
vote and they assume that if they can’t have video poker gambling,
then they will pursue this avenue instead.
Now the bill will head off to the Senate. Its supporters feel that
they stand a good chance of it being passed there.
