Video Poker 247
- Is Saipan Getting Video Poker?
It would seem that the climate of video poker and gambling in Saipan
has changed. A bill that was considered dead has now been
re-introduced. The House of Representatives is currently looking into
legalizing casino gambling at the former La Fiesta shopping mall on
Saipan.
The measure is called the “Video Gaming and Entertainment Card Games
Act of 2008,” and is sponsored by Rep. Oscar M. Babauta. As the bill
is very similar to three other proposals that have already been shot
down, many wonder why this one is so different. They all hope to bring
video poker, blackjack, and baccarat games to the mall.
However, the bill states that the issues covered are different “in
scope, depth and content.” It says that it takes all of the video
poker machines that are currently located throughout the various
villages and moves them all to La Fiesta. This will clear up the video
poker machines that have become so wide spread, and will create a new
tourist destination for Saipan.
The first one to get through made it through the House but the Senate
vetoed it. The second one was rejected by the House based on legal
issues. The third bill came fairly quickly on the heels of the second,
and also failed.
