Video Poker 247
- Video Poker and Bingo Issues
Hammond City Council has just voted to allow a third bingo parlor in
the city – and many are not happy about it. The anti-gambling groups
say that it is entirely too much gambling, and they want it completely
gone.
In fact, there are enough people against the idea of bringing in more
video poker that they had a meeting that more than 100 people showed
up to tell the council that they were opposed to the idea. They say
that video bingo is simply one short step away from video poker, slot
machines, and full scale gambling.
The city council says that residents are overreacting to the allowance
of the video poker games. They say that the majority of the people
want the games, so the rest of them are basically going to have to
deal with it. Not so.
It seems that the city’s Home Rule Charter states that they can get
signatures from 15% of the city’s voters to get an issue on the
November ballot that would ban video bingo. The council has already
approved the wording of the referendum, so now they just have to get
the signatures.
They have already started going door-to-door and they say that they
have so far been very successful at getting signatures. Those that are
running the video bingo games already say that if they are going to
get rid of electronic bingo, then they have to ensure that all
gambling is eliminated. They say that video poker, call in bingo, the
state lottery, etc. all need to be illegal as well as they are forms
of gambling just like video bingo is.
