Video Poker 247
- Residents Fed Up with Video Poker Laws
It seems that residents have decided to start fighting back against
what they feel are antiquated video poker and gambling laws. They are
taking their cases to the court – literally.
There were 65 players arrested in raids on homes in the greater
Charleston, South Carolina area. These players say they were simply
minding their own business and having some fun amongst friends. They
argue that what they were doing was not against the law.
However, the undercover agents who had infiltrated these
establishments say that there was tens of thousands of dollars
exchanging hands on a regular basis – which makes it a professional
establishment. Either way, the law states that using cards or dice is
illegal for the purposes of entertainment.
On April 4th, a raid betted more than $40,000 and 27 arrests. Among
those arrested were some prominent businessmen, a police officer and a
Navy officer. They ended up charging 38 people, of whom many are going
to fight their case in the courts. They say that the law is antiquated
and should be reversed.
The state has seen several laws that would attempt to make video poker
and gambling legal in the state. They have also seen laws that would
simply make arcade games legal, and specifically leave out video poker
or other type professional games. However, every bill that has come
through has been rejected, so these defendants are going to argue
their cases in hope to get it overturned, or at least updated to what
the people of the state really want.
