- Casinos Fighting Smoking Ban
It doesn’t matter whether or not it is a full or partial smoking ban
as far as Atlantic City casinos are concerned. They say that they are
suffering from the number of casinos that are popping up everywhere,
and adding any sort of restrictions on smoking is just making that
worse for them. While players say that they understand the premise
behind it, they would be just as happy in a casino that had not banned
smoking.
Players can play the slots, or video poker games, etc. in separate
sections for some casinos, and not so much in others. First the state
banned smoking everywhere by in casinos, then the Atlantic City
Council banned smoking in 3/4ths of the casino floor as well. Casinos
say that when you think of casinos you think of smoking and the fact
that they are banning it or putting any kind of restrictions on them
at this stage is setting them up for failure with their competitors.
They are afraid that eventually the state is going to do a complete
ban on indoor smoking and this will cause them to lose millions more
in both revenue and the money that is being spent to make the casinos
partially smoke free. Plus, because the smoking has gotten so much
worse in those areas where it is concentrated now, their employees are
saying that it is worse than it was before the ban.
Now the casinos have video poker games and slot machines, etc. for the
non smoking people right next to the ones for smoking people. Some are
planning on putting up enclosures, but others have just simply put
velvet ropes or signs up designating which is which.
Now that Donald Trump has stuck his nose in it, it looks as though
things are going to get worse for the casinos. He wrote a letter
complaining about the restrictions and how they were driving gamblers
to other states. This made the council mad and now they are looking to
punish all of the casinos for Trump’s letter and enforce a total ban.
