Video Poker 247
- Christchurch Casino Closing
The Department
of Internal Affairs has stepped in and ordered Christchurch Casino to
stop operating their online gambling site. The site had two online
casinos as well as bingo and video poker sites and has been operating
them even though they were found guilty of breaching the Gambling Act.
The company continued running the casinos and video poker sites for
another seven months after being told to cease and desist.
The company
had told them they were selling the online casino and thus needed
additional time before they shut it down. They said that they wanted
to sell the business, and gave the department a letter in March 2007
saying that it had been done. The problem is that they were supposed
to sell them and be done with them in October of 2006.
The company
first had one online casino called Kiwicasino.com that they opened in
2000 – and then added the video poker and online bingo after that. In
August 2006 they were informed that they had breached the Gambling
Act, and at that point they told them they were trying to sell the
online casino and video poker sites.
The casino
says that they didn’t get a letter from Internal Affairs asking them
to “cease and desist” and therefore continued on. Then in March they
sent them the letter letting them know that they had sold it. They
said that there was a delay in selling the video poker and gambling
sites as they had to go back and forth to reach an agreement.
The Department
of Internal Affairs says that they are clear on the fact that they no
longer own the sites, and as long as no other New Zealand entity holds
them as well the investigation will be closed.
