Video Poker 247 - Poker Professional Says No To Video Poker

Harry Knopp is a professional poker player, and he says that if West Virginia allows video poker and other table games to be legalized they will only be asking for trouble. He says that he has seen people lose absolutely everything on video poker, and that blackjack, craps and roulette will be just as bad. He says that he considers himself to be a responsible player, but is also greatly aware of the chance of addiction for people.

Knopp is 66 and from Parkersburg, and has placed third in the World Poker Challenge in Reno, Nevada back in 2004. He learned how to play poker while in the U.S. Navy, and walked away from the challenge with more than $150,000. However, he says that he has seen “people lose their Social Security checks and every dime on video poker machines” and he is sure that if they allow table games to come to the state they will see a lot more of that.

Knopp loves video poker, as well as regular poker, but he says that he would still vote against the video poker machines if he lived in Kanawha County. He says he is totally against it as it is not a good move for the public. The tracks will get money, the state will get money, and residents will get nothing but trouble.

Knopp says that he was not always a poker aficionado – that he has lost entire paychecks to the game. He says that there were times when he would have to literally borrow money from someone else just to feed his family. He has seen his family go through a lot of hardship because of him, and now he does not gamble money he does not have. However, he says you bring in video poker and you will have a lot of people doing the same thing he did, and not all of them will have a good outcome.
