Video Poker 247
- Salem Trying for Video Poker
Supporters of video gambling for Rockingham Park told state lawmakers
that they could be passing up a valuable opportunity to bring in $400
million in video poker revenue the first year. They say the track
needs the additional revenue and people love video poker – it is a
win, win situation.
They say that it is imperative however that they beat Massachusetts to
the punch, for if it is the other way around, and Mass. gets video
poker first, their first year’s numbers will be down. Not only that
but the track needs the money from the video poker games in order to
stay in business – and supporters think they have a real shot at
getting video poker legalized.
The state is running out of ways to make more money, and video poker
would be an ideal way of bringing in some extra for some of the
smaller programs and education.
State Rep. Roger Wells says that the video poker machines are a much
better way to keep taxes from going up – this will fund the schools
and keep property taxes low. He says that the governor has already
ruled out messing with a state sales tax or income tax, which leaves
their options for bringing in more revenue somewhat limited – hence
the video poker machines could fill that gap.
