Video Poker 247
- Madigan Pushing for Video Poker
House Speaker Michael Madigan is just one of many that would like to
see video poker appearing at a horse track near you. Madigan has
proposed a gambling expansion for the state that would bring in video
poker and slot machines to riverboats and horse tracks, thus allowing
the state to bring in an estimated $1 billion a year from their
revenue.
There would be more than 500 video poker and slot machines added to
the track if the bill is approved. Residents will have a chance to
vote on the video poker and slot proposal if it is passed to the
ballot. It would also allow for three addition casinos to be brought
into the state as well.
Lawmakers say that the video poker revenue could be used to fix their
infrastructure as they just don’t have the additional money to take
care of that otherwise. They also say that they need new schools and
the video poker revenues would enable them to do that. Chicago’s mass
transit system is in need of additional funding as well, and these are
all programs that they just don’t have the money in the budget to do.
There are others in the government that believe that the expansion is
going to take place one way or another, but they don’t know if this is
the way to go about it. They wonder if the addition of so many video
poker and slot machines in the state is overkill and likely to do more
harm than good. They say that they are willing to approve an expansion
of gambling in the state, just perhaps not one so large.
The anti gambling expansion groups say that the addition of this many
video poker and slot machines in the state will have a tremendous
effect on the number of gambling addicts in the state, and they vow to
fight the expansion every step of the way.
