- Police Bust Illegal Video Poker Machines
Police have arrested Letteria Lamacchia, a 26 year old female clerk at
Tory’s Variety Store for illegal video poker machine payouts.
Lamacchia was on duty the day that an undercover police detective came
in and played the video poker games and then paid him out after he
won. It is illegal to own the video poker machines in the state of
Pennsylvania and Lamacchia was arrested on the spot.
Police closed down the store as soon as it was discovered that there
was indeed illegal video poker gambling going on. They had been
receiving complaints from people alleging that there was illegal video
poker playing going on in the store, and when police attempted to play
they saw first hand that there was, in fact, illegal video poker
betting going on.
They could have kept the video poker machines had people been able to
play for fun, but playing for cash is against the law. When the
officer went in to play, the video poker machine took both paper and
coin money, and when she gained so many credits - the clerk paid her
out of the convenience store’s money.
When police looked into it further, they found that there was more
than $140,000 in the store safe, $1,000 in the register in the store,
and $3,000 in quarters in the video poker machine. Police are now
trying to decide if they are going to charge the business owner as
well.
The FBI has been called in to investigate as the county wants to make
sure that this is not part of some sort of illegal video poker ring.
They say that they do not know how long the video poker machines have
been functioning there.
