Video Poker 247
- Sheriff’s Deputy Lead Player in Video Poker Scandal
According to prosecutors, a former Buncombe County sheriff is involved
in a local video poker case and yet he is not alone. It seems that
former reserve Captain Guy Penland is accused of taking money to
protect the video poker operations in Western North Carolina, and pled
not guilty to the charges when in front of the magistrate.
Once he pled not guilty, the federal magistrate ruled that he was not
alone in the video poker case and that a former sheriff and two former
deputies are also involved. The former sheriff, Bobby Medford, and his
former deputies, Ronnie Eugene Davis and John Harrison remain jailed.
Prosecutors said that the men assisted Henderson Amusement, Inc. as
well as other various local video poker establishments remain in
business. They did not enforce the local video poker laws with the
companies, and supplied them with information that should have only
been accessible to law enforcement officials.
Over the course of their relationship, Henderson Amusement allegedly
paid Penland almost $12,000 to help them relocate the video poker
machines. The records were seized during an FBI raid on the video
poker property.
