Video Poker 247
- Video Poker’s Rise to Fame
Video poker is one of those games that keeps a certain kind of person
happy. It is not quite a slot machine and it isn’t quite poker in the
sense that you have to go sit at a table with other people and play,
but it is both of those things at the same time. Video poker meshes
the best of both worlds into one, and makes a lot of people very
happy.
Back in the 1970’s, video poker games started appearing, well after
the first slot machines had already made their mark on the gambling
world. But somewhere around the advent of the personal computer, video
poker popped up. It was kicked around for awhile, but didn’t really
come into its own until the 1980’s.
The video poker game uses a solid-state central processing unit and
looks much like a slot machine – only with cards. Video poker is
popular around the world, but no place like Vegas does as much
business from it. They are regulated in the same way that slot
machines are, but they are not slot machines.
Depending on the game, they use a “pack” of cards for you to play
with, and you set your wager down first thing. Once you have decided
how much you are wagering, you press the deal button and you see your
first cards. Depending on which game of video poker you are playing,
you will decide which cards to keep to give you the optimum chance at
winning. The number of cards is up to the state’s gaming authority
that you are playing in, and ranges from 52 to 57.
You then decide which ones to keep and discard the rest by pushing the
deal button again. The pay table on the video poker machine will tell
you if you have won, and if so, how much. Some progressive video poker
machines can pay out quite a bit, it just depends on where you are
playing and how much you want to wager.
