Video Poker 247
- Large Raid Yields Many Video Poker Machines
It was a good day for video poker raids, depending on which side of
the fence you were on. Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart has
announced that a large video poker raid has yielded them some 32 video
poker machines and more than $5,200 in cash from those machines.
They hit the west and south suburbs of the county in search of illegal
video poker machines, and were extremely successful. Dart says that
they hit eleven different businesses to collect the video poker
machines, and were very proud of their efforts. They say that they are
not standing by and letting the illegal video poker operations break
the law any longer.
Undercover officers posed as customers and scouted each of the
locations that had the illegal video poker machines. They wanted to
ensure that the video poker machines were in fact being used
illegally, as it is not illegal to have them in your establishment.
However, it is illegal to pay out on those machines when they are
clearly marked as being for amusement purposes only.
Each of the clerks that paid out to the officers will be facing
misdemeanor charges for illegal video poker gambling, as the officers
received anywhere from $20 to $50 from playing the machines. Many of
the tips that they received regarding the locations of the video poker
machines came from local police departments who were inquiring for
assistance and from family members of those that had lost “entire
paychecks” to the video poker machines.
