Video Poker 247
- Is Video Poker the Way to Learn Poker?
Some people think that if they get good enough at video poker then it
will be the same as playing at the tables in any casino. The problem
is that video poker is not a good way to teach you the tables. There
are lots of variables that don’t really fit into what video poker
players might think table games are about.
In fact, video poker is based on Five Card Stud, and although you can
probably get pretty good at playing that particular game, you won’t be
learned enough to actually be able to take over playing regular poker
instead. There are many games that you will find at a poker table, and
video poker does not really address that.
Even the way that video poker pays out is different from how the
tables work. Video poker is playing against a machine, not a dealer,
not other people at the table, just playing against the machine and no
one else. There are other factors that can influence the cards you get
or the way you play because you cannot truly factor in the human
experience of the game.
Some of the things you would get paid for or win on in video poker are
not the same things that you would get on a table. For example, a high
card with a pair is something you would want to hold if you were
sitting at the table, but if you are in front of the video poker
machine you are going to want to dump it.
So playing video poker will teach you how to play video poker really
well, but it won’t teach you how to truly handle a table.
