- Casinos Bend Over Backwards for Smokers
Things are tough all over, but some places really know how to take
care of the problem. Take for instance the casinos in Joliet,
Illinois. They saw that there was a big drop in their revenues for the
month of January, and they knew that part of the problem was the
terrible weather that they had been experiencing. However, they also
knew that the smoking ban had gone into effect.
This was the first month that the casinos were expected to be in
compliance with the smoking ban, and they know that this was what kept
a lot of people away. So they knew that they had to do something about
it if they wanted to earn their business back.
Harrah’s Joliet decided to create a room just for the smokers that was
part of the main casino so that they didn’t have to go outside in the
cold to have a smoke. The new “Smoker’s Club” will have ventilation
systems and climate controlled interiors, and it will be just across
from Ace’s Diner on the casino floor.
Empress Casino Joliet went one step farther. They chose to create four
smoking areas, with three of them being right by the gaming floor.
They also relocated their video poker machines and their video poker
progressive banks to one area on the lower level of the casino. By
moving the video poker games they were making it more convenient for
the smokers to play and they are bound to bring in some more clients
that way as well.
