- Video Poker Plea Comes Down
The case against former Bumcombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford just
keeps getting harsher and harsher. Now it seems that there is someone
willing to testify against Medford, which will only make the charges
against him harder to negate. Medford has come under fire in recent
months for allegedly being part of an illegal video poker gambling
ring in Western North Carolina.
The owner of the Hot Dog King restaurants, Demetre Theodossis has
allegedly entered into a plea deal in regards to the video poker case.
His plea agreement has him testifying against any and all
co-defendants that the prosecutors designate. Federal court documents
state the details of the plea agreement.
Court records do not identify which co-defendants that they are
referring to, but chances are that Medford will be among them. He and
three of his former deputies are currently waiting for their trial on
extortion and public corruption charges as they relate to illegal
video poker gambling.
Theodossis has waived indictment and pled guilty. He has been found
guilty of illegal video poker gambling and two counts of fraud and
false statements. He has had video poker machines seized from his
restaurants, and cash from his home totaling $1.8 million.
