- Women and Gambling Addiction
More and more women are becoming addicted to gambling. According to a
recent study, they are the fastest growing groups of addicts as of
late. This is not the first such study to show that they are indeed
growing in their numbers, but after yet another one, many are asking
what is being done to help the thousands of women becoming addicted to
their gambling?
Women are known for their addictions to video poker and to slot
machines, they seem to be the most played games of the group. With
this in mind, it is not so much the table games addiction that we are
seeing in them, rather the solitary play by yourself kind of games.
Several centers have started popping up across the United States that
are attempting to focus on the effects of gambling on women, but as
most of the time it is more of a time spending problem than a need to
win problem, it is hard to diagnose.
Many women will simply log on to their favorite gambling site and play
video poker or slot machines to pass the time. Next thing they know
they have wasted a large amount of time and an even larger amount of
money. So then they try to win that money back, only they don’t
necessarily have the skills or drive to take on the table games so
they are still playing the slots and video poker games trying to win –
it is a battle they cannot succeed at.
With more than 8 million women addicted to video poker, slots, and
other means of gambling, it has become imperative that something be
done about it.
