- Women Involved in Video Poker Case
A Statesville woman and her daughter have been charged with running an
illegal video poker establishment at four Statesville area locations.
They were the owners and operators of video poker machines that were
being used illegally.
The Iredell County sheriff’s department has charged them with
operating illegal video poker machines, and allowing gambling in a
public house. Both women were freed on $300 secured bonds pending
further court action.
Carole Lynn Hopkins, 53, of 105 Salem Meadow Drive and Heather Lynn
Hopkins, 31, of 146 Jane Sowers Road were each charged with the
illegal video poker gambling operation. They have four separate
locations that they were running the illegal video poker operation in.
On January 31st, the sheriff’s office executed four search warrants on
four addresses – all at the same time. There were three locations on
Barkley Road, and one location in Statesville. They found that players
would go to the locations to participate in the video poker gambling,
and they would get cash for any and all winnings.
Hopkins owned all four locations, and sixteen video poker machines
were seized from them. In addition to confiscating the video poker
machines, they also seized cash and firearms according to Sheriff Phil
Redmond.
