Video Poker 247
- Illegal Video Poker in Pike
It seems that there was an illegal video poker ring being run in
Shelbiana, and police raided the establishment over the weekend. The
video poker operation was in fact illegal, and a Greasy Creek man was
arrested and charged with the operation of said video poker machines.
Larry D. Adkins, 58, of Greasy Creek Road, was arrested and charged
with eight counts of first degree promoting gambling. He was taken to
the Pike County Detention Center and arraigned. When the officers
questions Adkins he admitted that the video poker games were his and
he “pays out” to winners nightly on the machines.
Kentucky State Police Troopers Jimmy Anderson and Kevin Thacker were
on routine patrol when they observed a man walking around a closed
business. Suspicious as to what he was doing, they investigated only
to discover several other vehicles parked in front of an unsecured
door at the back of the business.
They entered the building and saw people playing on the video poker
machines. The machines were taking money by changer, and thus tipped
police off to the illegality of the machines. There has been talk of
changing video poker to legal in the state of Kentucky, but as of now
the machines are still considered legal.
Adkins has his arraignment set for January 23, and has been released
after posting his bail.
