Video Poker 247
- West Virginia Keeps Plugging Along
West Virginia’s casinos keep trying to get ahead of the pace in which
other states have been adding slots by bringing in table games. First
they thought that if they added the table games quickly enough they
could keep the danger of the competition to a low. However, with all
of the red tape they have gone through lately, it seems that it is not
to be.
The state’s tracks initially asked for the table games in response to
the video poker that Pennsylvania brought in. They thought those video
poker players in particular, and the fact that these video poker
machines would be new - curiosity and all – that West Virginians would
head over the border to play. They thought to combat video poker
machines with table games.
So they had a vote and for more than a year discussed how to battle
the video poker games, and finally agreed that table games was a good
move for the state. The counties voted on it and Ohio and Hancock’s
counties both voted for the games.
Then they had to wait for the regulators to be present and they
weren’t trained so they couldn’t start yet, and still video poker was
progressing nicely over the border. Finally they were trained, all was
ready to go and now they are considering a smoking ban in Ohio County
– it seems the games just can’t catch a break.
