Video Poker 247
- Measure Will Ban Video Poker and Slots
There is thousands of video poker and slot machines in the Baltimore
area, and the House of Delegates as well as the government of the
state of Maryland would like to see these games disappear. The games
are located in bars and restaurants across the area, and the
legislature wants to see them removed from the establishments.
This comes at a time strangely enough when voters are gearing up to
vote on slot machine legislation in November that would allow 15,000
slot machines in five locations. One of those locations is Baltimore
City.
The state says that the slots and video poker machines that they are
trying to get rid of have spread across Maryland through legal
loopholes and poor law enforcement and that it is their job to correct
that. They say that this law has nothing to do with the legalization
of slots come November.
They say that passage of this law will protect the lottery as they are
currently draining revenue from the state. They also claim that they
will jeopardize the state’s chances in getting the legal machines
passed. A similar bill has already passed but it does not address the
video poker machines, just the slot machines.
However, the video poker machines are sometime worse for the state
than the slots are. The state is concerned with the number of people
cutting their own deals and bringing in machines across the state. The
video poker machines that currently exist are usually used to make
illegal payouts and to increase revenues in the establishments where
they are housed.
