Video Poker 247
- Video Poker Debate Rages On
Hest Technologies and International Internet Technologies are suing to
stop the state from going after those that currently have video poker
machines. The companies want the state to be unable to prosecute those
businesses that offer the video poker machine that is operated through
the use of a phone card marketing system.
They have asked Guilford County Superior Court Judge John O. Craig to
declare the video poker games legal. The problem is that each county
is treating the video poker games differently with some law
enforcement officials taking a hands off approach and saying that
unless they see more proof the games are legal.
Other counties are calling for the complete removal of all video poker
games as they say that they are illegal and the legislature is
attempting to push through a bill that would spell out the
illegalities of the game. The machines are usually found in bars and
convenience stores, and the state’s Alcohol Law Enforcement Division
has charged the operators of these machines in several counties across
the state for running the games.
The judge has issued a temporary restraining order that will stop any
further arrests for the video poker machines, until the mess can be
cleared up. A hearing is scheduled for today to see whether or not the
order will be extended or not. The lawyers for the state have not yet
responded to the suit, so it is truly up in the air as to where this
will go.
