- Gagnon Pleads Guilty in Video Poker Case
Arthur Gagnon, 56, of Milford, was arrested last year on felony
gambling charges along with Douglas Bianchi, 60 of Jonesboro, Maine.
Gagnon was accused of making illegal payoffs to bring in more video
poker business for their establishment.
Gagnon ran the Harley-Sanford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Route
13 in Milford and as video poker payouts are illegal, he was
completely breaking the law. However, he has pled guilty and was
sentenced to two years on probation and a twelve month suspended jail
sentence. As long as he keeps clean of video poker and other illegal
habits he won’t serve jail time. He was also fined $2,000.
Bianchi was charged with leasing the video poker machines, and Gagnon
ran the actual operation. Undercover agents had gotten a tip regarding
some illegal video poker gambling, and after much surveillance
undercover agents arrested the men and seized five video poker
machines. They had been in the establishment and were given cash
winnings for their video poker wins.
Bianchi has not seen the court yet, and will not see it until July
7th. As Gagnon received a reduced sentence in return for testimony
against Bianchi, it is expected that his case won’t go nearly as
smoothly as Gagnon’s did. Had the two men used the video poker
machines for amusement they would not be in trouble, however, they
chose to make illegal payouts on them and that is where they went
wrong.
