Video Poker 247
- People Indicted on Video Poker Charges
Seven people who were arrested in regards to two police raids on
illegal video poker establishments were indicted this week by a Gaston
County grand jury. The businesses were located in Cherryville and
Gastonia, and were running front businesses to cover for illegal video
poker games that were going on.
The prosecutors accuse J&B’s located on W. Franklin Boulevard, Phone
Sweeps also at West Franklin, and J&M Cash and Carry and Cherry Sales,
both of which are located downtown Cherryville at the corner of Main
and Pink Streets, of running illegal online video poker schemes. As
video poker has been illegal in North Carolina since July 1st of last
year, it would seem that they should have known better.
The prosecutors allege that people were using cards to buy time or
credits and then could use those credits to play video poker on the
computers that were located in the businesses. Payouts for the winners
were then made at the counter, according to Gaston County District
Attorney Locke Bell.
Those that were indicted are facing several counts of misdemeanor
gambling and misdemeanor dealing. Some are looking at felony video
poker machine violation, and misdemeanor dealing in lotteries as well.
Some are looking at much more in terms of trouble than others, but all
will be sentenced at a later date.
