Video Poker 247
- Shootings May Have Link to Video Poker
Police are wondering if the fatal shootings of a man and his wife have
any link to the man’s earlier ties to video poker. The bodies of
Howard Springer, 63, and his wife Nancy Springer, 65, were found
having been shot.
A former township police chief, Howard Springer was shot in the head
as was his wife. Springer was once convicted of video poker charges
and police can’t help but wonder if there is some kind of link between
the two crimes.
The bodies were found just before eight in the evening last Wednesday
in Carroll Township, and the County Coroner, Tim Warco said that they
were being investigated as homicides. Warco said that the autopsies
that were performed the next day confirmed that the gunshot wounds
were the cause of death.
Springer became a household name in May of 1999 when he was arrested
on charges related to illegal video poker machines. Springer was the
Chief of the Township police and retired just before he was arrested.
He had placed some video poker machines in a deli and had protected
the people who worked there from prosecution.
Springer admitted he had played the video poker games while on duty
and that he had won more than $7,500 in the process. He received three
years probation and was fined in regards to the video poker mess, and
that seemed to be the end of it.
