Video Poker 247
- Money in the Basement
As the video poker trial continues to former Buncombe County Sheriff
Bobby Medford, one of his top deputies came forward today to testify
against him. According to former Lt. John “Johnny” Harrison, Medford
kept the video poker checks until he needed them.
Harrison said that he had forged Medford’s name on the video poker
payoff checks and cashed them at local stores when the sheriff needed
the money. He said that the money went into the re-election account
during election years, but otherwise he kept it.
Harrison said that Medford didn’t want the banks to see the video
poker checks and wouldn’t put his name on them. So Harrison went to a
store that was managed by a friend of Medford’s and cashed the video
poker checks there.
An FBI agent that had been part of the raid on Lt. Ronnie Eugene
“Butch” Davis’ house said that he had found $18,000 of video poker
payoffs in the basement. He also had a bank deposit of $25,000 and an
investment COD for an additional $25,000.
Medford’s lawyers have maintained that he had no knowledge of the
video poker corruption – although all of the testimony thus far would
suggest otherwise.
