Video Poker 247
- Saipan Gaming Bill is Opposed
Senator Henry H. San Nicolas is working to keep the Saipan gaming bill
from being passed. San Nicolas is opposing House Bill 16-83, known as
“Video Gaming and Entertainment Card Games Act of 2008.”
H.B. 16-83 is trying to authorize bringing in video poker, video
lottery and other types of video gaming to Saipan. They would like to
see limited card games coming in as well, and they want them to go in
at the La Fiesta shopping mall.
The video poker and gaming bill was introduced by House Minority
Leader Oscar M. Babauta, Covenant-Saipan. San Nicolas says that the
voters of Saipan have already said that they don’t want video poker or
any other form of gambling or casino on their island. He says that
they are reintroducing a bill that no one wants to see passed.
He says that the island’s lawmakers should respect the wishes of
voters who have already been very clear about their stance on video
poker and gambling. Babauta maintains that this is not a gambling
bill, but he says that it is simply allowing limited gaming. He says
that they are looking to bring in more money for the island, and the
location will have more family friendly things like a theater and
other kinds of entertainment.
Babauta says that he only wants to help the economy. He says that this
is the only reason he is even considering video poker expansion.
