Video Poker 247
- Senate Votes Down Proposal
Afraid of opening the doors to video poker, the Senate Judiciary B
Committee voted against a proposal that would bring in video bingo.
The Senate was pressured by the anti-video bingo group Citizens for a
Better Community that did not want to see the games legalized.
The group said that by allowing video bingo in they were simply
opening the door to other types of games that would come in like video
poker, thus leading to an expansion that they did not want to see.
They were concerned that a provision in the bill would delay any
efforts that they currently had going on that would put an end to
charitable gambling – another cause of theirs.
The group says that charitable gambling is the same as regular
gambling; the only difference is who benefits from the money. They
argue that it is still a blight on the community, and one that needs
to be removed.
They were afraid that if video bingo were allowed in they would not be
able to get rid of the charitable gambling that goes on and that it
would simply progress to higher impact games like video poker and
table games. They said that the bill did nothing but “strengthen video
poker’s position.”
