- SLED Agent Pleads Guilty
William Renard Gourdine of Columbia used to be a Special Agent with
SLED – but not anymore. Gourdine pled guilty to his involvement in an
illegal video poker business and is now facing jail time.
Gourdine was an agent for SLED from June 2005 to January 2008 – and
during that time he worked closely with other agents within his
department as well as with the FBI. However, last September, Gourdine
became the focus of a joint investigation into illegal video poker
businesses that was being handled by the FBI and SLED.
The 44 year old is accused of conspiracy to commit extortion as agents
have discovered that he accepted cash payments to provide protection
for an illegal video poker business. They set up a sting to see if
they could catch him in the act, and on two separate occasions he met
with a cooperating witness and gave them information on ongoing video
poker cases that were going on within SLED.
Gourdine has received around $3,200 in illegal payments to give video
poker investigation information. He is now facing 20 years ass well as
a fine of $250,000.
