Video Poker 247
- Sheriff Turner Retires
The man who was instrumental in keeping video poker at bay is retiring
after 14 years as Sheriff. Turner has had an illustrious career – but
many will remember him as not just a compassionate man but as a team
player above all else.
When he announced his retirement, many were recounting the many things
that he had done for their county and Turner was quick to point out
that it wasn’t him – it was those that worked under him. He said that
this was the best department a Sheriff could ask for, and he was proud
to be a part of it.
This was a man who desperately needed money to run his department but
would not allow video poker games to come in. He knew that the video
poker machines would bring in a large sum of money for his department,
but he also knew that it would destroy its citizens.
He even fought off three of the video poker machine retailers who took
him to court because he would not allow the games in McDowell. He was
successful each time, and he says that if he had to do it again he
would as he knows that he kept the inevitable corruption out that
would have followed the machines in.
His employees presented him with his gun, his badge, a plaque and a
laptop computer at a luncheon honoring his service to the town.
