- Horizon Being Acquired By Nevada Gold & Casinos
Nevada Gold & Casinos, Inc. has announced that they will be acquiring
Horizon Casino Hotel in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The company will be
purchasing the property for $35 million. The casino is currently owned
by Columbia Properties Vicksburg, LLC – which is owned by Tropicana
Entertainment, Inc.
The closing has not officially happened yet, as it does need to go
through the proper channels and must be approved. There are licensing
and lease transfers that must happen as well, and the closing cannot
occur until those things are taken care of.
Nevada Gold and Casinos is out of Houston, Texas, and already owns
several gaming locations. They have a 43% interest in Isle of
Capri-Black Hawk LLC, as well as other properties. They work with the
tribes in a number of capacities, including owning and operating their
casinos.
The latest addition to their grouping, the Horizon, is well known for
its video poker machines and their slots, in addition to the fact that
they are on a 36,000 sq ft riverboat. In addition to video poker, the
casino also offers blackjack, craps, poker, and other table games.
They also have a 117 room hotel that many say is tops in the area.
The CEO for Nevada Gold, Robert Sturges, is pleased with the
acquisition. Sturges said that this was one more step for the company
in their desire to “own and operate casinos.” He said that this
particular casino had a great location and he felt that they could
really turn it around and make something of it.
