Video Poker 247
- How Does Video Poker Work?
People think of video poker machines as this kind of cryptic game that
no one really understands. They aren’t sure if it is a poker machine,
or if it is a slot machine, but really video poker is both. Video
poker is basically the marriage of slot machines and poker, to come up
with a game that is easy to understand and play, but you have to know
something about poker.
Video poker machines are like slot machines as both machines use RNGs
or Random Number Generators. The numbers run until you put a coin in,
and then the RNG stops and chooses the hand you are getting. They use
a standard 52 card deck, but each video poker hand starts from the
beginning so there is no chance of counting cards.
The computer usually grabs ten cards, shows you the first five, and
then shows you the rest depending on what you discard. Basically it
grabs ten cards and pops up five for you to see. If you discard all
five you will see the other five, otherwise you will only see a
portion thereof. If you discard three cards, you will get two, and so
on.
The video poker machine simply puts forth the cards in the order in
which they were grabbed, and what you hold or discard has no influence
on what your next cards will be. The first video poker machines came
out in the mid ‘70’s and evolved from there. Many people like video
poker as opposed to the tables because you don’t have to deal with a
real dealer, and it is more relaxing to play on your own than under
the watchful eye of a dealer and the other players.
