Video Poker 247
- Video Bingo Can Stay With Video Poker
According to St. Charles Parish President Albert Laque, a recently
approved bingo ban could not stand. He said that the business in their
district would think that no matter what they did they could not
guarantee that they would be able to keep their businesses and that no
one would be safe from those who decided they could no longer be
there.
He said that as the Luling Bingo Palace “complied with every rule, law
and regulation in place when it chose to locate here” there was no
reason why they should now be told that they cannot be there any
longer. He said that it would deter new business from coming to their
community.
Members of the community disagreed. They said that because of the
number of video poker games already around that they felt they had
been saturated with gambling and they wanted to eliminate it. Instead
of going after the video poker machines though, they went after the
bingo hall claiming that it was too close to the Mimosa Park
Elementary School.
Some residents say that they like the idea of bringing back bingo.
They say that it used to be more popular before the games such as
video poker took over, and that a step back into the past may be just
what they need.
The hall has been open since the day before Halloween, and opened with
35 bingo machines. Residents of the area around the school say that
this just adds to the saturation of gambling in the area, and that
they need it to be removed. However, the council says that they won’t
as the owners complied with all requests made of them and are there
legally.
