- Video Poker Payouts
Often people discuss “volatility” in casino games such as slot
machines and other types of electronic games. Slot machines usually
give big wins but less of them, video slot machines give smaller wins
but more of them. Well, with video poker it is much the same kind of
idea.
In video poker, the house edge is similar on games such as 9-6 Jacks
or Better, giving somewhere around 99.5% and 9-5 Super Double Bonus
Poker which pays around 99.7%. Because of the two for one payoff on
the two pair, Jacks or Better comes off a little more equal than that.
Super Double Bonus pays only one-for-one on two pair, but gives more
of its return on those big four-of-a-kind hands.
If you are betting five coins, Jacks or Better will give you 125 coins
for four-of-a-kind, and Super Double Bonus pays 800 on four aces, 600
on four face cards, 400 on four 2s, 3s or 4s, and 250 on any other
quads. So you end up with the same kind of payoff as slot machines vs.
video slots, with Super Double Bonus giving away the big money, but
not as often. Therefore with a lower payoff, you lose more faster so
it is a tougher row to hoe.
It basically comes down to two things, are you looking for the big win
or for the slow win over time? If you are looking for a game to be in
it awhile and really take your time playing, then you are going to
want a game with much lower volatility. If you are looking to get in
and get out and hopefully score a big payout in the meantime, then by
all means go for a higher volatility. It is up to you.
