Video Poker 247
- W.Va. Launches Video Poker
West Virginia’s video poker players are gearing up for Friday as that
is when Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester, and
Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center in Wheeling, will be ready
to start offering table games. Ever since voters chose to allow table
games, video poker players have been chomping at the bit to get a
chance to play.
The casinos have been waiting for John Musgrave, the West Virginia
Lottery Director, to let them know that they can open up for the rest
of the state to play. They each held “soft openings” for the board,
with the proceeds gong to charities instead of the casinos themselves.
Under the law they have to have a practice opening that they do not
benefit from before they can officially open for business.
The practices allow for the casinos to work out any of their kinks, as
well as giving the employees a chance to work with actual people.
There will be 37 poker and video poker areas at Mountaineer, and then
after January 1st they will offer blackjack, roulette and craps as
well to the tune of 50 table games.
Three of the four counties in West Virginia approved video poker and
table games, and the fourth county is probably wondering about now if
they did the right thing. Experts say that the amount of revenue that
could be generated from the video poker and table games will be in the
millions.
There has been some talk of Pennsylvania also adding table games, but
for now they can offer virtual blackjack and roulette, as well as
table games, for their clients. The state says that once all of the
casinos are up and running they will revisit the idea of adding in
table games.
