Video Poker 247 - Video Poker for Funding?

Massachusetts is just one more state looking to bring in more revenue by allowing video poker and slot machines to be played in the state at three new casinos. The Governor has announced that they will be auctioning off ten year licenses to the highest bidders in order to start these casinos.

The governor says that they are looking at only needing three as it should be enough to make the amount of money that the state needs. The up front fees from them would be around $600 million, and they would get 27% of their annual income. Experts say that this could be as high as $400 million which would allow them to pay for the plans already in place, as well as add new programs for gambling addicts, increase police security, and add a control board for the casinos.

He says that the money from the casinos would enable them to keep taxes where they are while still being able to take care of transportation funding problems that they are currently experiencing. It would also subsidize property taxes in many areas for those who are paying more than 2.5% of their income towards them.

It would also bring in jobs and tourism revenues that the state currently does not have. They say that with all of the money that is currently going across the state to Connecticut’s casinos, the state of Mass. might as well get their fair share of the income. Some say however, that with the addition of these video poker and gambling casinos that the state will simply spend more money and that eventually the three casinos will become six, then nine, etc. until the state resembles Nevada. They say that no amount of money is worth the additional heartaches that will come from the casinos.
