Video Poker 247
- Illegal Slots Funding
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board started issuing checks this week
to help those that would crack down on illegal gambling devices. The
state has allowed slot machines to be legal in the state, but many
bars, etc. operate illegal video poker machines, etc. which are taking
money from the state’s coffers.
When the state had made slot machines legal, they had included $5
million a year to help local law enforcement deal with the illegal
video poker machines and any other illegal gaming devices that are
competing with the legal ones. They are constantly reviewing
applications from various locations around the state for funding to
crack down on the illegal video poker, etc. machines.
Allegheny County was one of the first to receive a grant – they got a
quarter of a million dollars to help them out. Washington County got
$153,749, and Northern Regional Police Department got $43,836. The
money must be used to stop the use of illegal video poker machines,
etc. and put procedures in place to keep them from cropping up again.
More than $778,000 was awarded state wide to various areas to combat
the illegal video poker gambling, and more is expected to be issued in
the coming months. Most of the areas that received the money do not
know how they will use the money just yet, with some hoping to
collaborate with others to put the money to the best use.
