- Online Regulations Get Tougher
U.S. Officials finally proposed their internet gambling regulations,
and they are really leaning heavily on U.S. banks to help them keep
online gambling out of the US. They are asking them to block credit
and debit card payments for online gambling and stop customers from
receiving internet gambling proceeds.
They are not, however, asking them to stop checks that customers make
to online casinos, which is something that the banks said would be
almost impossible for them to regulate. They said that there are some
types of transfers as well that they will not be able to be
accountable for, and the Treasury Department seems to be listening to
them. They say that at first glance they look reasonable, and they
will know after they study them if they are doable.
However, critics such as the Poker Players Alliance say that the rules
are not fair and do not take into consideration those that choose to
play video poker or other online poker and skill based games. Someone
who plays video poker is not the same skill set as someone who plays
standard slot machines, they argue, as one takes skill and one does
not.
They say that they are being penalized for those that play games such
as slot machines, and that they should be considered in a different
category altogether. They say that skill based games such as video
poker should be exempt, yet under this new ruling they will be lumped
in with all online gambling.
