Video Poker 247
- Owners Sue Over Video Poker Law
The state of North Carolina has a lawsuit on its hands; the owners of
electronic games are upset by a law that was passed that pertains to
video poker that is too vague for their taste. The law makes video
poker illegal in the state, but law enforcement officials are
enforcing the law and taking machines that they say are not video
poker.
The owners of the games say that their games not even close to being
video poker games that they are for amusement purposes only. They were
on the ferries that brought people back and forth, and their purpose
was to keep children occupied while they were stuck on the ferries.
They were not the illegal video poker games that the state says they
were.
The machines were taken from the ferries last month by the order of
the state Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement Director Mike Robertson.
He says that the machines were included in the ban on video poker and
that they were illegal and thus were removed.
The owners of the games are suing the state as they say that the games
are for amusement purposes only and are asking a Johnston County judge
to replace the machines that they took. The judge is expected to hand
down his ruling later in the month, but in the meantime the ferries
are without their amusement games for the kids.
They say that the games were simply amusement games that did word
puzzles, and Robertson maintains that they are in violation of the
July 1st law that outlaws video poker.
