The UIGEA made it illegal for any United States financial institution to handle any kind of monetary transaction as it regards to online slot machines, online video poker, etc. There is to be no payment by any financial institution on behalf of online gambling to be made.

So the Act has made it illegal for United States’ banks to process payments to online video poker players, and online gamblers, but it does not make it illegal to play video poker, slot machines, etc. online. You can play any of the online casino games as much as you want, realizing that it is not illegal to play, but it is illegal for US banks to help you play.

Currently only eleven states in the US ban online gambling, so that leaves the remaining 39 having legal video poker, slots, etc. open to play on the internet. Placing bets is not illegal online for you at all, but it is illegal for an online company to take your bet if they are based in the U.S.
