Video Poker 247
- Johnston County Video Poker Bust
Johnston County was the scene of an illegal video poker raid on
Saturday. A single story white, wood framed building at 156 Bear Road,
near Benson, was the site of an illegal video poker gambling room, and
was raided by Alcohol Law Enforcement agents as well as Johnston
County Sheriffs and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Law enforcement officers arrested 71 people at the illegal video poker
club, and owner Marvin Ray Johnson was among those arrested. They also
seized more than $70,000 in cash, and officials said they had never
seen the likes of an operation such as this. Several officers said
that it was so large that it brought in people from out of state, and
that it was “basically a mini-casino.”
In addition to video poker tables, there was a roulette wheel,
blackjack and poker tables, and a craps table seized as well. They
said that there was even a kitchen with staff to feed the gamblers.
Among those arrested were several professional gamblers from other
states, and officials said that they did not think that they were
finished with the arrests and that more would likely come in the days
to come.
They say that there was an internet link as well, which would mean
that they were offering illegal online gambling in addition to the B&M
casino. Johnson will be facing misdemeanor gambling charges as will
the other 71 arrested, but he will also be facing additional charges
for owning and running the facility.
