- Video Poker Players Not Fond of New Games
Station Casinos has offered a new type of video poker game to their
players over the Labor Day weekend, but it was met with less than
enthusiastic results. Early reports show that video poker players are
not very interested in having their games messed with, and prefer them
the old way.
Station has a deal with IGT and Walker Gaming’s Guaranteed Play
feature that will last seven months with exclusivity for Station. The
idea behind the new playing strategy is that customers can buy a set
number of hands in advance, instead of playing hand by hand on the
video poker machines. They play with maximum coins, and therefore are
eligible for the big jackpots.
However, the players did not like the new video poker machines. They
said that they had to change the way they play their game with
different strategies than they would have before, especially near the
end of the game. They say that they could end up with a loss at the
end of Guaranteed Play, but would have ended up even in traditional
video poker.
The casino admits that over Labor Day weekend many of their video
poker games stood empty and still do – as players are resistant to the
change in strategy. However, the casino and experts think that the
video poker games will end up catching on – if not merely from a
marketing stand point. Experts say that they think once the concept is
added to things like slot machines it will end up being much more
popular.
