Video Poker 247
- Video Poker and Roulette Killing the UK
Video poker, roulette and slot machines are responsible for the amount
of money that gamblers have lost online this year, and the UK
government is seriously concerned about it. According to a recent
survey, the amount of money that British Gamblers are going to lose
will be more than £10bn annually by next year.
It will increase over this year’s losses by more than 50% which is the
largest increase since 1960. Between the online video poker games,
casino sites, and now video roulette, there has been an “unwinding of
regulatory constraints” that is showing up in the wallet of the
average bettor.
With video roulette now being offered in betting shops, it is only
going to increase the number of gambling addicts, and has been called
the "crack cocaine of gambling". Recent reports show that £650m a year
is being taken in from gamblers, and it went on to say that one in
nine players is addicted. That is higher than the other forms of
gambling.
Initially there was talk of banning the terminals, but that has not
happened and now with the legalizing of betting shops through the
Gambling Act, it is expected to only get worse. The Department for
Culture, Media and Sport says that they are monitoring them closely
and that they are still on probation, but for many addicts that will
not mean a whole lot in the long run.
